SARS shortens the tax season
By stephen in Tax
In an announcement today the South African Revenue Service has confirmed that tax filing season 2018 for non provisional taxpayers will be shorted to 4 months.
Filing season 2018 will commence on 1 July 2018 and close on 31 October 2018 as opposed to November. This change in deadline only affects non provisional taxpayers. The deadline for manual branch submissions will be 21 September.
The rationale behind the change is:
“A shorter filing season allows additional time for SARS, taxpayers and the tax fraternity to deal with return verifications before most taxpayers go on the December holiday break. Often there are delays with taxpayers having to respond to our queries and requests over the holiday break.
The quiet period after the first three months of tax season has now been removed resulting in efficient use of our resources. ”
