SARS phishing emails – exercise caution
By stephen in Tax
We have become aware of clients receiving SARS notifications relating to:
- Statement of accounts
- Imminent blacklisting due to overdue amounts
Please note that the majority of these are phishing emails and should not be opened. Our suggestion to all clients is to check the validity of any emails received from SARS by contacting our offices.
In most cases, SARS will contact us as your duly appointed practitioners. However, we do note that in some rare circumstances SARS will email you directly. Should you receive emails from SARS requesting that you open an internet link / attachment please contact us. We will be able to check if the correspondence is authentic.
Email is becoming the preferred method of scam artists and fraudsters and you need to exercise caution when opening emails from unknown senders or where you are not expecting content.
