Account in arrears notices from SARS
By stephen in Tax
SARS have apologised for the incorrect SMS and letter reminders issued first week of November. This relates to the revenue service threatening legal action before the due date of the assessments issued.
Here is the communication received from SARS:
We are aware that some of your members and their clients have received either a SMS or an E Mail indicating that certain accounts are in arrears. As these were sent in error, you are requested to notify your members to please ignore these messages.”
Mark Kingon spoke about this matter on Cape Talk on 3 November 2017. Access the Cape Talk Interview.
A reminder that payment to SARS for any assessed tax is only due by the “second date” on the assessment notice issued. Therefore SARS cannot threaten legal action before this date. If you are unsure by what date your payment is due please contact our offices.
